Welcome to Filmatura

Our journey

At Filmatura, we create high-quality, precision-engineered filmmaking tools designed to empower creators and bring professional-grade solutions to every production. Founded by filmmaker and designer Tom Kamín, Filmatura began as a personal journey to solve a common problem: finding affordable yet reliable camera accessories that meet the demands of modern filmmaking.

What started with a simple idea - a 3D-printed follow focus gear - has grown into a company dedicated to innovation, craftsmanship, and accessibility. Every product we make, from camera cages to lens gears, is designed with attention to detail and manufactured in-house using sustainable practices, including completely plastic-free packaging.

Our mission is to bridge the gap between professional filmmaking equipment and affordability, without compromising on quality or usability. We strive to support creators of all levels by providing tools that make filmmaking easier, more efficient, and more enjoyable.

Whether you’re rigging your first camera or refining your kit, Filmatura is here to help you capture your vision with confidence.

Philip LeMoyne

Really fantastic build quality on the lens gears and even better customer service - thank you Tom!

Phil Sieg

The original M-Lite was a great achievement...but this is next level. The packaging and nesting of parts is amazing! Ikea could do no better.

The Journey

2019

Humble Beginnings

Filmatura was originally founded in 2019 under the name "3DFocus" by young filmmaker Tom Kamín in the Czech Republic, Europe.

The vision was clear: to produce high-quality yet affordable 3D-printed follow focus gears. What began with a simple Facebook post and an eBay listing quickly turned into a growing business. By the end of the year, hundreds of follow focus gears had been shipped worldwide, and dozens of new lenses were profiled for compatibility.

2020

Growth and Innovation

In 2020, 3DFocus continued to ship gears globally, gaining hundreds of customers and valuable experience. Learning CAD design and experimenting with new products expanded both the technical knowledge and product offerings of the company.

In October, the revolutionary HardStop Gears for Sigma Art lenses were introduced. These gears became an instant hit, allowing filmmakers to use standard photographic lenses with professional follow focus systems and lidar focusing setups.

2021

Transitioning to New Horizons

2021 was a year of exploration and prototyping. Numerous new ideas, such as a compact V-mount battery, a motorized slider, a P4K loupe, and a foldable teleprompter, were developed. However, most of these concepts never reached production.

The limitations of 3D printing became more evident, prompting an investment in advanced manufacturing methods. This year marked a deep dive into CNC machining, including building a DIY CNC machine, learning to program it, and producing the first aluminum prototypes. The company also underwent a visual rebranding, accompanied by the launch of a new website.

2022

Heavy Metal

2022 saw fewer product releases, focusing instead on honing CNC machining skills. More lens gears were profiled, but the DIY CNC machine’s capabilities fell short of the desired quality standards.

The decision was made to invest in an industrial CNC machining center. Through a combination of persistence, fortunate timing, and serendipity, Filmatura acquired its first industrial-grade CNC machine, opening the door to a new level of manufacturing precision.

2023

Breakthrough with the M-Lite

In 2023, Filmatura launched the M-Lite DIY Camera Rehousing Kit for the Canon EOS M in collaboration with IMCE. This groundbreaking product gained massive attention, amassing hundreds of thousands of views on social media and receiving widespread acclaim from customers. The success of the M-Lite kept the team busy fulfilling orders and ensuring every unit met the highest standards of quality. In September of 2023, the M-Lite project was put on pause to fulfill pre-orders and expand the range of available accessories.

2024

Precision and Expansion

2024 marks the release of Filmatura’s first high-quality, precision CNC-machined accessories for the M-Lite system. Additionally, Filmatura released the Rogue Camera Cage for the EOS-M—a precision-machined, ultra-lightweight cage designed to provide unmatched versatility and durability. And something big was just around the corner...

2025

Pushing Boundaries

In 2025, Filmatura unveiled the M-Lite REVO—a complete overhaul of the M-Lite system. The REVO introduces enhanced modularity, an extensive range of CNC-machined accessories, increased rigging flexibility, and innovative advancements in high-quality 3D printing. Importantly, the majority accessories developed for the REVO are fully intercompatible with the original M-Lite, reinforcing Filmatura’s commitment to supporting existing products and customers.

To the future and all good to come,
Tom from Filmatura
